Personal Guiding Rates

The table below has my standard rates for up to 6 people.  The rates are for a 9 hour period, and I usually suggest we get started early (5:30 to 6:00 am, but it is up to you). 

Please make sure you read this entire section so that you understand all of the charges that may apply to your situation.  If you have any questions or special circumstances, please ask.

If I have to travel to meet you in the morning, then the 9 hours starts when I leave and the time ends when I get home.  In addition, mileage charges do apply to travel time for me to meet you in the morning, even if you use your rental car the rest of the day.

I will take larger groups and will gladly quote a fixed daily rate for those groups.  I will need enough notice in order to find a large enough vehicle (15-passenger van).

Western North Dakota or Northern ND Birding Tours       

Depending on the location and the weather, camping fees and/or hotel fees may apply.  I will discuss this on an individual basis with you.

Transportation

I prefer to use the client's rental/personal vehicle, and am willing to do all the driving if you would like.  If we use my vehicle, the following charges apply:      

Basic Mileage Rate (4-door car): 40 cents per mile   (Federal rate is 48 cents per mile)

Basic Mileage Rate (4x4 Yukon): 45 cents per mile   (4x4 is seldom required)   

Night Birding

In addition to any extra hourly charges, there is a surcharge of $30 for birding after 10 pm or before 5 am.  About the only bird in Central North Dakota that we would have to bird this late and/or early for is the yellow rail and the common poorwill in western ND.

Food and Beverages

I will provide a cooler with ice and water at no cost.  It does not matter to me whether you want to pack a lunch or stop at a cafe and/or convenience store for lunch.  I will plan the tour accordingly if you would like to stop at a cafe.  The time spent eating is included within the 9 hours.

Deposit

I require a deposit of $75 per day.  I must receive your deposit within 7 days of making the reservation in order for me to hold dates.  I reserve the right to cancel a reservation and accept other business if I do not receive your deposit in a timely manner (within 7 days).  Please put your check in the mail right after you reserve your time.  I am unable to accept credit cards.  If you cancel for any reason, the deposit is forfeited unless I am able to fill your dates, in which case your deposit will be refunded minus $10.  The end of May and June fill up fast, so try to make your reservations early.
